<![CDATA[Well here we are nearing the end of another very busy year. In 2008 we built on past experiences to prepare for an exciting and rewarding future.

1. We introduced our Leadership Team program – to better prepare our future black belts. In Term 1 our Black B Club students undertook a Confidence Course, in Term Two a Courage Course, and Term 3 focused on Attitude.

2. We continued to make Seminars available to train with the some of the most respected and skilled martial artists in the world.

Professor Steve Stewart from Canada – visited us again in April and conducted two seminars on Pressure Points. He will be returning in April 2009.

Ed Parker Jnr – We were honoured to have Ed Parker Jnr in our midst in September. Both these gentleman echoed the sentiments of those who have spent time with us in the past such as Larry Tatum and Graham Lelliott from the USA, that what we offer is truly world class.

3. Weapons Classes
This year we introduced the Staff, Twin Sticks and Sai to some of our Brown Belts in Terms 1, 2, and 3 Working with weapons enhances focus, strength and coordination.

4. World Championships
20 students represented K4K Forest Lake at the 5th World Championships held in Melbourne and proudly returned home with 75 trophies. This included 28 x 1st places; 22 x 2nd places; 17 x 3rd places and 8 x 4th places. In one event, our Black Belt girls took out 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

5. We welcomed another 5 Black Belts in Amadee S. And Carissa K; Elise T. and Marcus T. as well as Taylor L. to our ranks. We have now developed 7 K4K Junior Black Belts in 6 years

6. St Peters Lutheran College at Springfield trialled the Kenpo 4 Kids “Skills 4 Life” program to the year 8 students throughout Term 3. As a result this course as been included as part as the St. Peter’s curriculum for 2009.

<![CDATA[This week past I had the honour of testing and the pleasure of promoting 3 outstanding young Australians to the rank of Kenpo 4 Kids Junior Black Belt.

Twins Elise and Marcus T. and their friend and fellow K4k team member Taylor L. completed a 5 year journey after a grueling test that include perform all their basic requirements and all 6 Kenpo Sets; Universal Forms 1 through 7 as well as their own form; all 48 self techniques and Staff Set 1. they were also required to submit and be prepared to discuss an individual Thesis as well as answer general questions on the principles, concepts and theories of Kenpo. Not a small task considering Elise and Marcus are only 15 and Taylor is just 12. But that is the standard that we set at this level.

I was also humbled by the gifts of appreciation that Elise and Marcus presented me with. Each presented me with a special poem that they had written which expressed their feelings on their journey towards Black Belt.

There were 3 words in Elise's poem which meant much to me and they were simply
"... now I understand....."

I felt this was very significant because it showed a degree of maturity. Often times in her journey there were times of tears and of joy, of pleasure and of pain - just as it is in life. But it's not until we walk that path and turn to look behind us to really appreciate that what it is we have achieved. I was reminded of a quote I recently read;-
"if the path ahead of you is clear, it's somebody elses path." Wise words indeed.

 <![CDATA[Dear Team Members,
We would like to invite you to attend a general meeting to put in place the mechanism’s to possibly make it viable for our kids to attend and compete as part of a larger Australian Team at the 7th Kenpo 4 Kids World Championships to be held at the Paradise Pier Hotel in Disneyland, USA on Saturday 24th September, 2010.

“When And Where”:
Forest Lake Fitness Centre, High St. On Friday 12th December 2008
Commencing at 7:00pm SHARP and
Concluding no later than 8:00pm.

The purpose of this meeting will be twofold.
A)	To establish The Kenpo 4 Kids QLD Fund Raising Committee through due process which will require “you” to elect your four (4) executive members:Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer.
We will also require you to elect a “minimum” of an additional three (3) committee members, which together with the four (4) executive members will provide the committee with a legal quorum of seven.

NOTE: You will also receive with this notice a copy of the proposed Constitution/Rules of the Committee. This is for you to read and evaluate first, as the General Meeting must have a majority vote of the members to adopt the Constitution/Rules.

B)	After the General Meeting and the elections of the committee, I will fully explain the details of the trip, including anticipated costs and obligations and commitments, and supply you with a newsletter, outlining the requirements of you and your child/children should you wish to have them represent “Australia” at this event.

The purpose of the newsletter is for you to take it home and consider all the facts before you are required to make your decision as to whether your child/children will be attending the competition.
Your decision must be made by the 31st of March 2009.

Paul Morris has volunteered to chair the meeting for the elections.
“PLEASE COME & HAVE YOUR SAY”

<![CDATA[I just wanted to share this humbling experience I just had. Carissa and her family just presented me with a "success collage" reflecting her journey to K4K junior black belt. Carissa did this all by herself and the inscription around the edges reads;-

"Thank you so much for guiding through my journey to black belt for these past four years. You have taught me to believe in myself and never give up. We have shared times of laughter, tears, success, hopes and dreams. Thank you for always listening to me and supporting me and encouraging me. You are the best Karate teacher I could ever wish for."

This is the true essence behind what we do and why Kenpo 4 Kids is truely a life skills program and not just a recreational martial sport.

Thank you Carissa for having such a teachable spirit. I'm proud to have as Kenpo 4 Kids Black Belt.

<![CDATA[Our future rests with our children, yet we continue to see more and more of these precious, young lives wasted due to dysfunctional family life, varied forms of abuse and criminal involvement. Today, it is a sad fact that our society seems to have trouble transmitting healthy values to young people. Many federal, state and city agencies, together with churches, have tried and are trying to help where they can. Some programs work; others don't.

Martial Artists for Peace (M.A.P) is foundation that has been created by KKA Queensland instructors Simon Rea and Tony Perez to reach out to at risk children with the Kenpo 4 Kids program.

M.A.P is a community peace programming strategy and aims to transform young people whose lives are spinning out of control into responsible, confident and respectful individuals.
The first child to be adopted into M.A.P is “Hope”. She is an 8 year old whose dysfunctional family situation made her an ideal candidate.

Well known Brisbane building company SUNSTATE HOMES has graciously sponsored “Hope” in the Kenpo 4 Kids program for 5 years. Sunstate Homes director Amir Taefi said,

“I’m proud to be associated with this wonderful initiative. We share a common belief where people live without fear, being allowed to love, live and experience life with all its weird and wonderful differences without fear of ridicule, discrimination, bullying, physical and mental abuse at the hands of others. My company builds homes for families and M.A.P with Kenpo 4 Kids builds homes for the spirit – it’s an ideal partnership.”

“Hopes” story coming soon.
