Frequently Asked Questions (F.A.Q.'s)

Instructor - Thomas Cullen

Sensei Tom Cullen lives in Sydney Australia where he teaches the Kenpo4Kids program.

Question: What is a Sensei?

Answer: In our Kenpo4Kids program, the Head Instructor is known as a Sensei. He or she is like a Principal in your school. I have been a Sensei for over 30 years and I teach otehr instructors to become Senseis, so that they can teach you and our Kenpo 4 Kids program so is the same all over the world.

Question: What do you do?

Answer: As the founder of the Kenpo 4 Kids program, I look after all the clubs and associations that are part of our program.

I make sure that all our Instructors and Senseis teach our program the way it is given to them.

Everyday, I look for new ideas so that you, the students, will benefit by.

Our team of Club owners and Senseis constantly update the program so that we can offer you the best martial arts and enable you to enjoy our classes.

Question: What makes you a Sensei?

Answer: After you receive your Black Belt and you have been teaching for over 2 years, you are entitled to become either a Sensei or Instructor. This is given by the head of the organization in Kenpo 4 Kids.

I would give this title to the Black Belts.

Question: How long have you been teaching kids?

Answer: I started teaching children 20 yeasr ago. People and friends said I had a gift with children that I could relate to them. I believe that regardless what sport you teach you must be able to stand in that child's shoes. Only then can you truly know what direction to lead that child. Each time I start any of my classes, I ask myself "Remember where you started from", by doing this, I now understand every child in that class, their expectations, now I can guide them. All my Instructors who teach the Kenpo 4 Kids program have extensive martial arts experience but more important, they have the qualities to guide children of all ages to give them not only the quest for Black Belt, but to prepare them for their lives aheard.

Question: Where do you teach?

Answer: I teach in Sydney, Australia. I am a full-time Martial Artist; in other words, it is my job during the day I teach at various schools which you can find listed in the timetable and at night time I conduct classes for K4K at all belt levels. If you would like to come to my classes, you can either call my number or just turn up to the class. You can email me below, or you can call me direct on 0404197208.

Question: What other things have you done in the Martial Arts?

Answer: I started teaching Martial Arts in Sydney in 1973 after I arrived from Europe. During that time our heroes were Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris you can read about these martial artists in most magazines. In 1987, I was presented with an award certificate from the Prime Minister of Australia Hon. Paul Keating for teaching girls in Martial Arts we went to Canberra for that award. In 1990, I was asked to attend to Shotokan Karate coventionthat was held in Colombo, Sri-Lanka. I later gave a press conference outlining the benefits of self-defence to children.

In 1995, I organized one off the largest Martial Arts competitions held in the State Sports Centre with over 500 children competing from Australia and New Zealand. This was a great success in 2004.

We will be hosting the World K4K championships.
